A Rescuing Knight

On April 17, 2006 I was reading in II Samuel chapter 22 and came across a passage that has become one of my favorite scriptures. God had just saved David from Saul and his other enemies. In a song David said, "God is bedrock under my feet, the castle in which I live, my rescuing knight." Oh I like the image of God being my "rescuing knight", he has sure rescued me. He goes on to say, "I called to God, to my God I cried out. From his palace he heard me call; my cry brought me right into his presence-a private audience!" Then God let loose his "hurricane anger" and "roared in protest" against David's enemies. Yet, David said,"But me he caught- reached all the way from sky to sea; he pulled me out of that ocean of hate, that enemy chaos, the void in which I was drowning. They hit me when I was down, but God stuck by me...I stood there saved-surprised to be loved." He goes on to say that God made his life complete when he placed all the pieces before him, that he gave him a fresh start, and that he felt put back together. This is what was happening to me. I was being "put back together" as I laid all the pieces of my life before him. A fresh start; a firm place to stand. Then came the scripture that summarized what was happening in my life, "God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my life to his eyes." Wow! God will rewrite our life. And as David said, "Suddenly, God your light floods my path, God drives out the darkness."

Beth Moore says, "There is no freedom apart from transparency." Let's be transparent with our God and lay our lives before him.
